Poems inspired by Shel Silverstein's Where the Sidewalk Ends

Where the Dappled Light Shines- By Grace Opie

There is a place where the dappled light shines
Where the trees bow their heads as you pass by
And the leaves eddy down to the forest floor
Where the choir of birds call out
In the place where the dappled light shines

But not far from this place
Where the black smoke intrudes upon the hills
And the world is polluted by bitter lies
Where the sky remains dark
And the sun never shines
But a light glides through
To the place where the dappled light shines

Yes, we'll follow the light
To a beautiful place
Where blossom flourishes
And the sun always glows
In the place where the dappled light shines.

Where the Path Ends- by Poppy Knight

There is a place where the path ends
Where the sweet song begins
Where they sing and dance and play and prance
Where you feel alive and free

Run away from the place full of fear where they won't let you near
A place full of smoke and things that are suffocating air
A place where you stare up in the sky and wished you'd never lived nearby.

The Place Where the Trees End- By Dominic Croucher

I have heard of a place,
A place where the trees end.
A place where there're reaching branches that can go no further.
Where animals stop.
They stop to think. To be.

Away from the bustle of civilisation
Away from the pressure of responsibility
Away from all that hurts us
"Ah, this place is where I wish to be."

A place where all unites
To help all in need
A place to go to cease the pain
The place I'd rather be.

Where the Road Ends- By Sam Kenney

There is a place where the road ends
And before the tunnel begins
There is a place where the children are full of delight
And the birds spread their wings in a lovely flight

Let us leave this place where smoke fills the air
And nobody changes it because they just don't care
The rivers filled with tears
And everybody scared because they have too many fears

Yes, we may walk with our head down
But that does not mean you should have a frown
Maybe for us the road is done
But for you it has only begun.

Country- by Joel Sage

The road ends and the gravel starts.
The green grass invites me in
Birds singing
Cows moo as they eat their lunch.

Swish, a claw sinking into the bird's egg
The bird squawks angrily as it protects its young in the dead of night
All is hush until sunrise.

The crystal blue water twists and turns
As the sea birds hit the water's surface.
They fly away into the distances
To feed their young.

Where the Tunnel Ends- by Crusader Brown

A place where the tunnel ends and before the trees begin
The lush grass shines in the morning dew.
A pair of wings flutter over the children's laughter.

Let us leave this place to the smokey black paths
Where the sun doesn't glow.
And follow the faded white chalk arrows towards the eddying leaves.

Yes, we will follow the white chalk arrows towards the eddying leaves
And go back to where lush green grass grows.
