For our poetry today the tamariki were asked to write a poem about an object, not saying what it was. Miss Rait and Miss Byers were left guessing for some! We've entered some into The Poetry Box June Challenge on Paula Green's poetry webpage. Check it out on Thursday 30 June.
Can you guess what these children were writing about?
1.
The colourless sheet,
lays straight and silent
still, not moving.
As it bends it gets carried away by a soft
breeze.
When let go it lands on cold water,
from then it disintegrates.
Zoe Rogers
2.
It just sits there waiting
Jaws closed, saliva ready
Eyes set on the brown portal
That releases new prey.
Suddenly the jaws open
Showing the deepness of its throat
And as the liquid drops into his its throat
The roar sends it down.
Finley
3.
As light as a feather,
A tree bites the dust,
Transforms into hundreds.
Different hues, thin not fat,
A victim of a lead.
Nico
4.
Two hand
Grabbing food
Locked away
Kitchen
Drawer.
Grabbing food
Plate to plate
Back where I belong
Gone
For some other day.
Keegan
5.
It hangs there, lifeless
A dark mass of material
Surrounded by darkness
The door creaks open.
Her fingers reach out
Grasping it
Placing it upon her shoulders.
Grace
6.
He sticks to his loved ones.
He leaves a bit of himself with them.
A headless horseman
Twisting his saddlebag,
Kicking its spurs to grow faster.
Sleek and smooth
His horse is.
Liam G.
7.
The lifeless snake held tight by the other end.
Wrapped up in a ball or spread out along the floor.
The thing strip of tight cuttable elastic to
Tie things together.
Soft or hard
Thin or thick
The snake lay still and silent.
Juliette
