I know Why the Caged Bird Sings- Poems inspired by Maya Angelou

Wondering by Ida Scott
Image result for tiger running
The wind billows past, striking at his face
And he stalks his prey,
And he prowls through the bushes,
Wondering, wondering, what?
His body covered in stripes of colours,
And intricate pattern of his own.

Yet, far away, where smoke blows black,
And the cages swing on bars,
Only his cage to stalk and prowl,
Wondering, wondering, how?
Doomed to stay trapped forever,
Innocent, yet behind bars.

Below a burning sun,
His homeland stretches
For miles upon miles,
The two brothers separated,
Malicious teeth and unique patterns,
One tiger trapped, the other free.

Children of Sorrow by Abby Smith
Image result for children
The children of sorrow,
Get cooped up in cots.
Get no attention at all,
Are poor and depressed.

But there are children so happy and well,
So full of joy and laughter.
Whose parents haven't left them when so young,
Who don't know what is going on with the poor children.

The children of sorrow
Hide in their misery.
They fear what is all around.
But they know what the world is like and want to explore.

The children so happy and well,
Play for every lasting joy.
Like the life that they will never change.
The children of sorrow and joy.

The Cage of Eternal Prison by Orla Dunlop
Image result for misty sky
Bars of cold metal,
Cutting off the world,
Chains from a distant dungeon,
The sorrow of a misty sky,
The cage of eternal prison.

A song of sorrow,
Of single secrets,
The entrance to an old forgotten land,
He sings the song of the deepest shadows,
And the cage of eternal prison.

His last trill,
Of chilling thoughts,
And defeated warriors,
A final breath of fearful strength,
And the cage of eternal prison.

There's Always Hope by Amelie Fink

Image result for soaring

From chains to bars to sky to freedom,
There's always hope.

Lonely eyes stare out over at the hills beyond.
Standing on a mountain of dreams
Ready to spread its wings and soar
Up into the sky.

But lonely eyes still look out of these metal bars
And wonder whether it will ever be free.

Still there's hope in those lonely eyes of his.

I know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Leila Cogle
Image result for caged birds sings
The free bird sings a joyful note of nothing needed
And everything there.
While he soars through the air
Wanting nothing more.

The caged bird sits sombre and hunched
Dragging himself along the ground
In a narrow line
Staring into darkness.

The free bird gleams with happiness
As it glides over the shiny water
Dipping its wing in every minute.

The caged bird sings with a fearful trill
Of things unknown but longed for still
And his tunes is heard on the distant hill
For the caged bird sings of freedom.

A poem by Cara Reid
Image result for ripples on the water
He drifts through the water
Black as he can be
A slim figure creeps
Wild and free

She floats through the water
Stalking another
A fat figure drooped
Searching for her brother

He splashes through the water
Leaving ripples to face
He's going so fast
Like it's a race

She swims through darkness
The clock is ticking, tick , tock
It's time I leave
The door unlocks

They sneak through the water
A miss and a mister
They swim far, far away
As brother and sister

"If" by Liam Newman
Image result for strength
If you can keep your own,
In any situation.
To stay standing even it all is lost.
If you stick to what you know is right,
Then you can keep your strength.

If you know that you can keep your head in any situation,
If you do not fall ill of your friend,
Then you can be yourself at any sign of trouble,
Then you shan't fall.

Now you shall be far from danger,
The light you bring to dark situations.
But if you win, but don't brag,
Then greater things you will achieve.
There would be so many more possibilities.

Chicken Cage by Dominic Croucher
Image result for caged chicken
The free chicken crows for the sun
Bathing in the glow of the light
His feathers brush the earth
The fat beetle skittles up to his beak
Daring to claim the earth

The caged chicken dreams of the fields
The endless freedom of the moors
The lush hillocks bursting with the sky
Then confined to the cage of hate.
He will dream.
