Major Differences

This morning we had a wonderful discussion around a poem called Major Differences. We talked about stereotypes and discrimination and how discrimination can be ok at times (Pete changed his mind after listening to Jessica!) Hugh generated exciting ideas and took a lead.

Check out some of our writing below.

Stella
Our differences divide us
Although our thoughts collide
We all think we are different
But deep down we're the same
My world is divided into columns
Your's stays open, open for opportunities
If we stand together
Our world could change
We try to deceive the other side
But we end up a tangled mess
Our souls are different
But our feelings are the same.

Hugh
Our culture divides us
But our religions keep up together
Our ideas collide
But we both feel a traitor in our midst
We both create our sorrows
And despise the other kind
We both learn and grow
But no one can improve
None dress the same
But you can't tell us apart
For our souls are linked.

Jessica F
Our differences divide us
Although our similarities combine us
Our hopes and dreams come together
But laws drive us apart
We write the same story
But play different roles
We speak the same language
But neither can understand
Although our worlds are separate
Our hearts strive together.

Cara
Our difference separate us
Laws keep their distance
Our race is discriminated against human rights
Our cultures and beliefs have been split into columns
Our quality is judged by those who hurt
Our spirits and our futures are most likely the same.

Nico
When you drive
We will fly
When you hide
We shall seek
There might be a difference
But our hearts feel the same
They both think they are better
But they are actually the same
If we unite together
We can achieve in our own way.

Liam G
We may be different but blood still runs through our veins
We might be apart but we're still with you
You may be weak, but your heart is strong
Everyone's got their strengths and no-one's better
We might not be the same
Although there's no reason to blame.
